Get ready to explore a host of new features and enhancements that empower you to test with unmatched efficiency and precision. Let's dive into the latest enhancements and embark on a journey of unprecedented power, efficiency, and reliability with PowerTester Version 20230730.1!

New Features:

1.      Improved Connection Management:

  • With this update, we have enhanced the way connections are stored in PowerTester. Now, connections are split up by connection type, providing you with a more organized and efficient approach to managing your connections. Instead of having a single connection containing both source and Power BI details, you can now create separate connections for source and reports.

2.      Introducing Key Vault Connection:

  • We are thrilled to introduce a new special connection type in PowerTester - Key Vault Connection. This feature allows you to securely connect PowerTester to your Key Vault, eliminating the need to store sensitive credentials within PowerTester. Now, you can confidently manage your credentials in a more protected and centralized environment.

3.      Azure Service Principal Authentication:

  • PowerTester Version 20230730.1 brings you an advanced level of security by introducing Azure Service Principal Authentication for connections held in Azure. This cutting-edge authentication method ensures heightened security while eliminating the need for service accounts. Please note that a Power BI Premium or Embedded license is required for long-term utilization of this enhanced security feature.

4.      Test Case Quick Run:

  • We're thrilled to introduce Test Case Quick Run, a time-saving enhancement that allows you to swiftly run test cases without a test plan. With this feature, you can iterate on test cases and report visual development with ease. Seamlessly execute test cases individually to quickly validate changes and expedite your testing workflows.

5.      Microsoft Fabric Integration (Preview):

  • We are excited to announce the preview release of Microsoft Fabric integration in PowerTester. This feature empowers you to use Fabric warehouse or lakehouses as data sources and Fabric Power BI reports as destination connections. Seamlessly connect to these powerful resources to streamline your testing workflows and maximize your data-driven insights. (Please note that Service Principal Authentication is not yet available for this preview feature.)

6.      PowerTester Co-Pilot (Preview):

  • With PowerTester Co-Pilot, testing your Power BI solutions becomes more intuitive and efficient than ever before. This innovative AI-powered feature generates Test Case SQL, saving you time and effort in crafting comprehensive test scenarios. We invite you to explore this exciting preview feature and leverage the power of AI for your testing endeavours.

Improvements:

1.      More In-App Notifications for Ad-Hoc Test Plan Executions:

  • PowerTester now keeps you even more informed during ad-hoc test plan executions. With additional in-app notifications, you'll receive timely updates on the progress and results of your test plan executions. Stay on top of your testing activities effortlessly with these enhanced notifications.

2.      User Interface Enhancements:

  • In this version, we have made several user interface improvements to enhance the overall user experience. You'll notice a more intuitive and streamlined interface when creating, editing, and managing connections.

3.      Simplified Connection Setup:

  • Setting up connections has never been easier! The process for creating connections for source and reports has been simplified, reducing complexity and saving you time during configuration.

4.      Connection Testing

  • You can now test power BI connections ensuring you have the appropriate access. We’ve also decreased the time it takes to test a connection.

Bug Fixes:

Our team has been hard at work fixing various bugs and issues to enhance the overall reliability and performance of PowerTester. We thank our users for bringing these to our attention.

Important Note:

Please be aware that the Microsoft Fabric Integration and PowerTester Co-Pilot features are in preview, and some functionalities may be subject to further development and improvement. We value your feedback during this preview phase to shape the final release of these features. Additionally, as Service Principal Authentication generates embed tokens, it is essential to have a Power BI Premium or Embedded license for continued functionality in the long term. We value your feedback during this preview phase to shape the final release of these features.

Your success is our utmost priority, and we're excited to embark on this testing journey with you. Happy testing!
